Happy Saturday NCFF!

Earlier in the year we studied through the wonderful Bible book of 1 John followed by a super well received twelve-week set of discipleship messages called “ROOTED.” Tomorrow we’ll begin an exciting new Sunday morning Bible series that will take us through the tiny but powerful “postcard” sized books of 2 John & 3 John. I’m calling this series POSTCARDS FROM PARADISE because these two books from God sent to us from the paradise of Heaven and are the shortest books in the Bible. No kidding, you could almost print each one of them onto the backside of a large postcard. But please don’t be fooled by their miniature size. Though these books are brief, they pack a truckload of life changing truth that you and I desperately need to hear and live.

So, to help you get acquainted with and to help you get the most out of NCFF’s latest study in God’s Word, here’s some background info you’ll appreciate knowing to get us off to a good start. Two thousand years ago Jesus Christ, God-in-human-flesh, made this incredibly bold claim, “I am the Truth.” (John 14:6). Just a few days later, Pontius Pilate, the Roman Governor of Judea who mocked Jesus before he crucified Him, spoke these words of his own, “What is truth?” (John 18:38). Though phrased as a question, in reality this was a godless, cynical statement revealing what Pilate actually believed about truth. Jesus taught that absolute truth was objective and could be found in Him alone. Pilate declared that absolute truth is an illusion and is nowhere to be found. Ever since that time, the Church has been in conflict with the world regarding the nature and origin of truth. Today, our postmodern culture teaches our children and grandchildren that there is no such thing as objective, absolute truth. In other words, modern thinking is that truth, at best, is completely subjective and relative. And that’s if truth even exists at all! 2 John was given to us by God, out of love for fallen humanity, to save us from our own foolishness by letting us know that eternal truth is knowable and that absolute truth is definitely discoverable in Jesus. And here’s the blessing for all people: Discovering the truth of God is the way everyone can also experience the love of God. In fact, it is the only way. Beloved, 2 John, this short Postcard from Paradise, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, shows you and me how we can have both God’s truth and God’s love guiding, inspiring and transforming our lives on a daily basis.

I really do hope you’ll come and join us to tomorrow as we worship God Almighty. The joy and sense of empowerment that happens when we gather together to praise Him is such a wonderful blessing. I urge you to not take it for granted. The message last week challenged us to “Step Out Of Covid.” This week we’ll focus on learning “THE TRUTH ABOUT LOVE.”  Please read over 2 John, in a couple of different translations, to help yourself get ready to hear what Jesus has to say to us. Hope to see you in a few hours, geared up to hear and experience God’s love and God’s truth …
Grace & peace
